Roadmap

The road ahead.

No dates, only promises we intend to keep.

Ground rules

  • No dates until we are sure.
  • Desktop browser first, phones after.
  • Premium means modes and cosmetics. Never power.
  1. Now

    Now: sharpening the game

We play, test and fix until the game feels great. Then the doors open.

    • Every item, skill and card should do exactly what its text promises.
    • Only your visibly equipped gear acts in a match. No hidden equipment, no surprise bonuses.
    • Artwork fills the tiles; clear tooltips carry the details. No empty slots or clutter hiding the fight.
    • Reported bugs get fixed before more players join.
    • Finished items get their own art and quiet animation, with sound that belongs in the tavern.
  2. Next

Closed test: Friends of the Oche

An invited crowd takes the game for a spin, with help close at hand.

    • Invites go to players on the waitlist and friends from the darts community. An account is required.
    • Play a full run with ten lives and nine duel wins to claim the tournament. Grudge matches stand between you and the trophy.
    • Play Torald, Fennis or Onixa, each with their own equipment alongside neutral gear.
    • Use the bug-report beetle to flag problems, then tell us how the run felt.
    • Replay finished duels to show exactly what went wrong.
    • A private Discord channel keeps testers together, with regular updates from the devlog.
  3. Later

    A wider closed test

More players, more builds and a closer look at what keeps you coming back.

    • Invites spread through the waitlist referral queue. Accepted referrals move you closer to the door.
    • Run goals and personal records give each attempt something to chase.
    • Planned difficulty choices let you find the right challenge.
    • Daily and weekly goals earn currency, with cosmetics to unlock.
    • Balance changes target gear that breaks the game, not blanket cuts to every Legendary.
    • We look at which heroes and items players choose, how runs unfold and where they end.
  4. Later

    Open beta

The tavern welcomes strangers. The game should hold its own without a guide.

    • Public sign-up opens, with cosmetic referral rewards.
    • Casual offers pure runs. Ranked brings rated runs and its own ladder.
    • Duel pits your unlocked custom build against saved rival builds. Progression improves your gear; a changing equipment selection keeps matchups fresh.
    • A guided opening teaches the needle through play, with details in tooltips.
    • A Steam page offers wishlisting, and the press kit opens to everyone.
    • Shared community goals get their first outing.
  5. Later

    Launch

A finished, polished game for your desktop browser.

    • Every starting hero has a complete item pool, signature Legendary, voice and animation.
    • Grudge rivals arrive with WANTED posters and Legendary signature rewards.
    • Casual, Ranked and Duel are live. Premium unlocks modes, never power.
    • Achievements and a player profile keep your run history and replay links together.
    • The beta ladder resets as The Ember Crown begins.
    • A Steam desktop wrapper may follow. Phone and touch play wait until desktop is finished.Decided after the beta
  6. Later

    Seasons

Fresh reasons to return, with a new theme each season.

    • A new playable rogue or Grudge gang, themed items, events, cosmetic rewards, a ranked reset and a shared community goal.
    • Between seasons: targeted balance changes, quality-of-life fixes and more news from the devlog.

A season to come

The Ember Crown

Embertooth the Hoard Dragon has put his crown on the line. Champions gather in the ruined arena to throw for a crown forged from Legendary darts lost in old tournaments. Each run is a chance to win them back. Ember sparks, scorched parchment, brass and soot give The Ember Crown its look.

Season

A new rogue

  • A new hero with a clear identity. Possible directions include lingering burn and acid, or a duellist who shields and reflects. The character and voice are still to be chosen.
  • Their equipment mixes new designs with fresh takes on neutral gear. A signature Legendary shines brightest in the matching build.
Season

A new Grudge gang

The Soot Choir brings rivals tied to the Ember Crown story. Each has a WANTED poster, a Legendary signature item, card or skill, and a voice to make the grudge personal.

Season

Events to discover

  • The Crown Forge: buy a Legendary dart from Embertooth’s smith.
  • Ash Market: a black-market shop could let you buy another hero’s equipment at a premium.idea
  • Ember Wager: risk gold on the outcome of your next duel.
  • Engraving and enchanting return with Ember Crown art, keeping the rules you know.
Season

New equipment

  • Effects stay clear and familiar: readable properties and triggers, no percentage effects, and critical hits on value-producing items.
  • More whole darts, each with a theme that fits its effect. An ember barrel burns; a frost flight slows the needle.
  • Synergy comes first. New equipment belongs in a strategy, not every build.
Season

Modes

  • Casual: standard runs, cosmetic rewards from run goals, no rating.
  • Ranked: rated runs, a ladder from bronze to diamond, and cosmetic rewards such as frames, poster borders and needle skins. The ladder resets at season’s end.
  • Duel: asynchronous fights against saved rival builds. Bring a custom build from your unlocked pool, with changing seasonal gear and a ladder separate from Ranked.
Season

Progression

  • Currency comes only from run goals, daily goals and weekly goals. The pace should feel steady, even when you play casually.
  • A season reward track offers cosmetics and currency, with free and premium paths. Both stay cosmetic-only.
  • Duel equipment and rarity upgrades come from progression, not purchases.
Season

Cosmetics, never power

  • Needle skins: ember, bone and brass.
  • Item frames and poster borders.
  • Idle-animation variants for playable heroes.
  • Seasonal colours for the rune-oak board.
  • Victory-screen backdrops.
Season

Community goals

  • Every dart can help a shared goal. Milestones unlock free cosmetics for everyone and reveal more of the season story.
  • A regular Grudge hunt lets the community choose a rival through Discord. Defeat the chosen rogue for bonus currency.
  • The season ends with a showcase of community builds, drawn from replays and shared on the site and in a stream.

Not planned for The Ember Crown

Real-time PvP, phone play, gold stealing during duels or percentage effects. The focus stays on the game you know.

The board is waiting.
